President's Welcome & Message
Dear Fellow Members & Guest;
First let me take this opportunity to welcome you to the Mississippi Firefighter’s Association website. We hope that you will find it beneficial. This year will mark 91 years since the MFFA was first established in 1923. We honor & remember the past, and look forward to a great & prosperous future! As we move forward into 2014, I hope that this will be a safe year for the firefighters of our great state. As President of this great association, it has been an honor & privilege to serve you and to continue the traditions of our association by providing strong leadership and professionalism as I come in contact with the great people of our state representing our Association. 2014 has been a very busy year for our association already. This years legislative session started of with several pieces of legislation that were very important to our association & the firefighters of our state & their families. The most discussed & heavily lobbied bill this year was HB 1488. This bill involved increasing the Death Benefit paid for a Line of Duty Death, from $65,000 to $100,000 dollars. Much hard work & dedication went into seeing this bill through. I am proud to say that this bill passed both the House & Senate Chambers, and will be signed into law by Governor Bryant March 26, 2014. This has been a measure that we have worked on for many years, and it has finally passed.
In addition, last years session saw many important issues for the MFFA. Toping those was the diversion of the Firefighter Car Tag funds to the MFFA. This funds diversion will be used by the association to further support projects that are inline with the MFFA strategies. These funds will support the MS Burn Camp, additional scholarships, and many others.
As we all know, 2014 Summer Conference is fast approaching. The Gulfport Fire Department & the City of Gulfport are our host this year, and they have some great activities in store for those in attendance. It will be great to be back on our Mississippi Gulf Coast! This conference is sure to be a great one, and I look forward to seeing many of you there. Please see the posted registration forms & host hotel information, and make your plans to join us!
Again, I am honored to serve as MFFA President. It is a position that I do not take lightly. I work daily to move our association forward, and provide the leadership that you and our great association deserves. If I can be of assistance to you or your department, please fell free to contact me at any time.
Strength & Honor
